    Default CPanel Release Announcement Script

Get CPanel Release Announcements Emailed to you!

On my wish list for some time has been an email notification of CPanel stable releases. I like to know about new releases 'before' they are installed on my server and not 'after'.

With the upcoming release of version 7, I was a little uneasy about automatic updates (even to Stable) until I've searched the forums to see what issues to expect. I've turned off automatic updates and have a PHP script which checks the CPanel website each night for new releases. The script is configurable for STABLE, RELEASE, or EDGE as well as which platform you are interested in (Linux or FreeBSD).

Maybe someone else may find this as useful as I do. If so, then enjoy!

Yeah, the script requires curl to be compiled into PHP. It's possible to rework the script without that requirement but it's probably easier to run easyapache and include curl in the PHP compile.

If I am not mistaken you can do it with easyapache.

Great script, thanks.. Since I like to know about 'release' & 'stable' version's I copied and renamed the script and setup 2 cron's so that I could get an email for each..

Well, the script cought me off guard because right when i tested the stable release, there just happened to be a 7.2.1 stable version released!! Now there shouldn't be any problems with any of you up adding curl to apache..

Getting this chmod file to 777

There is a new version of CPanel Available!

    Platform: Linux
    Rlease : EDGE
    New File: Cpanel-7.2.1-EDGE_64-Linux-i686-glibc-2.1.tar.gz
    Date : Fri Jul 18 21:50:59 2003

The version file is not writable. You will probably get duplicate notifications until you resolve this.

Hey, theres a bug in this script that won't read versions over 99. I'm guessing, because it won't detect the latest 'Release' Build. I removed the entry completly out of the log to make it redetect the latest build and it read build 92 which is the version next to the latest.

The file attached is updated. Looks like the CPanel website has a new look. The revamping of the html broke the script but it seems to work with a few tweaks (until they change it again I suppose).

Wierd thing is they removed the platform (Linux or BSD) from the download file names which isn't very accomodating.

It should also handle builds over 99 correctly now :-)

A better way to do this would be to parse an FTP directory listing but I keep getting an error saying that it's 'unable to set anonymous permissions'. I think this is because it's a shared IP FTP server but I don't know the magic URL which would work for this particular server. If someone knows I'd be interested in the info.

Let me know how the script works. Just managed to do some cursory testing but worked ok for me.
