It is my understanding that cPanel can detect virtualized nodes under all of the major hypervisors/vm softwares: Xen, KVM, VMware, OpenVZ, etc.

That is correct; the virtualization environments you listed are supported by cPanel. The following page lists all of our supported operating systems and virtualization environments.
