cPanel & WHM - Version 11 (x3)

I read on another thread that v11 is expected to be released by the end of March. Is this still true?

I can't find the thred anymore..

I know that the "EDGE" release is suggested for non-production servers, but is the EDGE release stable enough for a production server? I heard that some of you run edge v11 on their production server. Have you had any problems?

If I do install EDGE, can I downgrade afterwards? (easily through cPanel)?

scroll back 2~3 pages, there is a thread titled "Easyapache 2" and you will find it.

As for WHM 11 Edge... I have been using it a while now without major problems. Not exactly a production server but I have a number of websites running on it.

I myself am very interested to find out when Easyapache 2 will be officially released since it has been a long time.

Just upgraded and i'm getting a mysql error. My website loads very slow also.

Here's the error after the install (from WHM):
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!
Scanning for new mail senders.....Done
Scanning suexec_log.Done

To answer your question:

I have been running Apache 2.0.59 with Cpanel 11 on Edge release on more than 500 servers
in full production use for very close to a full year now with little to no problems whatsoever.

I also have dozens of dedicated server clients who you would consider more "users" than
"administrators" in their server management skill levels and they too have also been
running Cpanel 11 with Apache 2.0.59 without any notable problems.

Most bugs released in Edge tier updates are usually brainless stupid things that
even a newbie could probably figure out and fix on their own in 10 seconds so
there really is no major concerns to speak of running Edge.

The hardest part for most people is just simply the actual upgrading itself because many
people rely on EasyApache to do the entire upgrade for them and EasyApache generally
makes a couple of common mistakes that are dead end walls for inexperienced people
who don't know enough to be able to compensate for upgrade issues.

If you are experienced with server management and can reasonably find your way
around Linux, you will probably find the upgrade to Cpanel 11 and Apache 2 to
be rediculously easy and a total piece of cake.

If you don't really understand how anything works outside of using the menus in WHM
and Cpanel then you probably don't want to attempt to make the upgrade yourself.

The good news is that I am available on request to help anyone who wants to upgrade
to Apache 2 / Cpanel 11 and would like some expert help.

ROFL! Dude, they don't update the changelogs very well around here !!!!!!

Most updates show up in there about 6 months or so after they are already in Edge
and that's assuming that any notation even shows up at all in the changelogs!

More often, cpanel programmers don't bother to put anything in the change logs at all
where it comes to both BETA and EDGE and sometimes CURRENT.

Apache2 support first cleared the BETA tier down to EDGE in May of last year which
is when we converted all our cpanel servers over and data centers to Apache 2.0.59.

Since then, I have also been personally providing "upgrade for hire" services to many
clients from all around the world helping them to upgrade to Apache 2 and many of
them have been fully up with Apache 2 and Cpanel 11 almost as long as I have.

Side Note: In addition to working with Cpanel with Apache 2 for about a year now,
I've been working with Plesk and Apache 2 almost 4 times as long as that going
all the way back a number of years to the original release of Apache 2 so I am
more than well versed and experienced in Apache 2 setup and configuration!

Well, I normally charge a flat $50 per server for Apache 2 conversion and server hardening.

However, it should be noted that I've already converted servers for 3 different cpanel
forum users over the course of this weekend at no charge to them mainly because
it's Easter weekend and I'm in a somewhat generous mood at the moment.

Any hints to get my upgrade from release to edge to get apache 2.x & php 5.x to work.

I set my whm prefs to edge, updated cpanel to latest, selected my desired apache/php prefs and had whm rebuild apache. I have tried several different vesrsion combos, but all seem to be slightly off.

with Apache 2.0 it seems to be updated, and shows handlers for for php 5, but php pages are downloaded instead up executed. With Apache 2.2 I get internal server errors.

I can downgrade whm back to release, rebuild apache 1.x and php 5.12 ok after removing a few leftovers in the httpd.conf that get left behind from the edge versions.

I'm sure it is simple, but I'm not comfortable enough with cpanel to know if my external upgrade tweeks will break cpanel.
