I usually get along pretty well with software. Installed mysql from scratch on a home system and didn't run into problems. This one has me stumped though and I don't seem to be making progress yet![]()
Got it.
Trick was simply to read the /var/log/mysqld.log carefully
Finally noticed it was looking for mysql.sock in /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock vs. /var/lib/mysql/sock and data directory was in /var/lib/mysql/mysql not /var/lib/mysql
Doh!
Spent all day not seeing what was right in front of me. But glad it's up and running at last.
