cpanels dying with "disk full" message, but disk is not anywhere near full...

I can log into WHM fine (WHM 10.8.0 cPanel 10.8.1-R113
FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE i386 - WHM X v3.1.0)

but when i launch any customer's cpanel, i get this error:
"Sorry for the inconvenience!
The filesystem mounted at / on this server is running out of disk space. cPanel operation has been temporarily suspended to prevent something bad from happening. Please ask your system admin to remove any files not in use on that partition."

When i check the disk space though, i get this:

which shows no partition other than /proc at even close to 50% usage, and root / is at 17% useage! There are no unusually large files in the partition either.

i've rebooted and restarted cpanel, but the problem persists. any ideas?

for completeness, here's the fix from that thread, which did indeed fix the problem:

We believe this error is due to a bug in FreeBDS's statfs system call. The
latest cPanel builds have an option to disable this system call and use output
from df instead. Running the following commands should correct this error:

# /scripts/upcp
# touch /var/cpanel/disablestatfs
