cpbackup-exclude.conf format

I've tried this new cpbackup-exclude.conf but I can't seem to get it working. I've put the file in the user homedir eg /home/myuser and added lines like this:

/home/myuser/mytestdir
/home/myuser/mytestdir2/file1
/home/myuser/mytestdir2/file2

... but all these files/directories are still included in the backup, so I tried:

~/mytestdir
~/mytestdir2/file1
~/mytestdir2/file2

... still no luck. What's the correct format for the lines and am I missing anything else?

Are you using compressed or incremental backup?

Incremental is disabled, I'm doing compressed backups via FTP.

I had the same problem. It looks like they pass this file to tar -X (--exclude-from) so it uses patterns and not absolute paths.

This worked for me...

To exclude: /home/myuser/mytestdir
Use: ./mytestdir

I didn't try to exclude any files but it should work the same. Also note that the tar documentation warns against trailing whitespace following the patterns but blank lines are ok.

Does anybody know if this added functionality disables the use of the .cpbackup-skip files? I have those in several folders for things that don't need to be backed up.

If .cpbackup-skip files are found, the contents of those directories are added to ~/cpbackup-exclude.conf
