    Default cppop chkservd failure on RHEL

    On the RHEL ES boxes, chkservd keeps trying to restart cpop even though it is running. We noticed the /etc/chkserv.d/cppop file was looking for the string ".OK", however, RHEL ES is returning "+OK". We changed it int he file and restart chkservd, however it keeps failing again. We see the following in the chkservd.log:

    [Sun Mar 7 21:55:25 2004] Service check ....apache [+]...cpanel [+]...cppop [cppop: [+OK != +OK]
    -Restarting cppop....

    Last time I checked, "+OK" does in fact equal "+OK". Any ideas on how to fix this?

    I can't possibly be the only one running RHEL ES having this issue. Tell me it isn't so.

    Hey jsteel;

    Actually I haven't seen this on RHE 3.0 servers. The only thing I can think of is to see if you can telnet port 110 on the localhost. That's basically what chkservd does to check on status. I've also found sometimes stopping both chkservd and mail, then restart mail, wait 2 minutes then start chkservd again corrects these strange errors.

    [Mon Mar 8 17:35:37 2004] Service check ....apache [+]...bind [+]...cpanel [+]...cppop [+]...exim [+]...eximstats [+]...ftpd [+]...imap [+]...mysql [+]...syslogd [+]...webmail [+]...whostmgr [+]...Done

    service[cppop]=110,QUIT,.OK,/usr/local/cpanel/etc/init/safekill cppop;/usr/local/cpanel/bin/cppop

    Yes, I can telnet, which is how I found that the response is "+OK" rather than ".OK" as it is configured in the default cppop chkservd file.

    Nothing seems to fix it. I've tried countless patterns to restarts.

    Thanks though.

    Well after about 2 dozen various stop/starts/restarts. Things have suddenly started working. Damn that was annoying.
