Why dont you change the password using
http://www.domainname.com/cpanel
???? or
http://www.domainname.com:2082
There is a Mail Tab... change the password there... quick work around since I dont know why you are having troubles.

because client has 26 employees .. all using :2095 - cannot allow 26 employess full access to cpanel
I actually meant for the admin to set the passwords and give them out... but the problem should still not exist...
I am all out of ideas here.

Does it happen to be an add-on domain that is havingt he issue?
no it is main domain with 26 email accounts.. each employee logs in using :2095 to check their personal email..
there is a &change password& link there when logging in that way.. but it does not work..
think it should be fixed or taken out by cpanel completely..
Just trying to see if anyone has been able to fix at all.
This is what I use and have email users access
