    Default Deleted e-mail account still getting e-mails

    Hello,

    Through cPanel-->Mail, we deleted a domain e-mail account and corresponding forwarder, however the account is still being treated as active (i.e. still getting forwards, and you can e-mail to it). I've combed through all the active accounts and forwarders, as well as checking the account in Horde, Squirrel and Neomail, but can find no reference to the account in question. Is there a step we missed in deleting the e-mail account?

    Is the default/catchall account for the domain set up? If it is set to any value other than ":fail:" (without the quotes) then remote SMTP servers will still be able to send mail to that address. Mail for the account will go to the designated account that the default account is set to.

    Thank you; I will check that. I believe it is set to :blackhole:, but I will have to verify that tonight. Unfortunately, I cannot check cpanel from work.

    :blackhole: will still accept the e-mail, it just won't send it anywhere. Chirpy has the best explanation for the differences at:

    Okay, it partially worked. It seems one of the deleted forwarders is still functioning. The e-mail account that I referred to originally is definitely not sending or receiving e-mails, however the user had a forwarder to his personal e-mail which still seems to be working.
