Default Direct Access to Raw Logs Without Download

    Greetings,

My Server Management Company apparently doesn't know how to access raw logs without downloading them. I've been told there is a way. Many log programs--WebTrends included--can analyze logs directly on the server without downloading them. I'm wondering if anyone participating in this Forum might know how.

Below, I've included the thread with my Server Management Company (name changed to protect the...). Most recent message in the thread is on top.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

    Aloha,
    Kirk out.

Response: The only way to access logs is by going to to CPanel and click "Download Raw Access Logs", you can copy and paste the URL that it links to. Keep in mind it's compressed in a gzip format to cut down on bandwidth resources and save download time.

    Thank you,
    Server Management Company

Problem: Thanks for reply. However, please see the first entry in this thread. I know how to download logs and analyze them on my local PC.

As I mentioned, a number of PC-based programs can analyze server-based log files without downloading the file. The analysis software runs on the PC and accesses the log files while they remain resident on the server. I'm looking for the specific address (perhaps ftp that a virtual hosting client can use, along with their username and password, to access log files in this way without downloading.

    Thanks,
    Kirk

Problem: Thanks for letting me know the locations of the logs.

Can one of my virtual hosting clients access only their logs, without SSH and without downloading them? Webtrends software allows you to point to a gz file on a server and do log analysis, again, without downloading the log.

Please let me know if this is possible for a cPanel virtual hosting clients, and if so, to what directory they'd point Web trends to.

    Thanks,
    Kirk

    Problem:

Is there a way to analyze a raw log access file, while it is still on the server, without downloading it? I know some server configuration allow this, perhaps through FTP access.

    Thanks,
    Kirk

Default Same Problem Kirk or Anyone

Was there any resolve to this Kirk? I'm currently trying to search out the same information... exact same situation here. So far Webtrends gives me a 404 page not found for the FTP address i'm trying to use. The path is correct and Username and Password are also correct. Anyone?

This thread is almost 5 years old.

If you have an application that needs access to the current logs, they are stored in the following directory:

    /usr/local/apache/domlogs/USERNAME/

Where USERNAME is your cPanel username. This directory is owned by USERNAME (you) so your scripts should be able to make use of these logs.

    ---

Current access logs can be retrieved via FTP with the following credentials:

    user: USERNAME_logs@example.com
    pass: your cPanel password

Where USERNAME is your cPanel username

    ---

Archived access logs can be found at ~/access-logs if you have enabled raw log archiving via your cPanel interface.
