DNS entries / settings help please?

I am new to the dedicated server world...

I'm used to the shared hosting basic cPanel functions, so with this new dedicated server I have WHM and the full cPanel and a whole bunch of functionality that I've never seen before on my other accounts.

The server that I'm dealing with has the DNS set up as:

mail.abcserver.com for the inbound/outbound mail server.

We are transitioning from a shared hosting server to this dedicated server. The shared server uses pop.abcserver.com and smtp.abcserver.com respectively.

I contacted the hosting company, and they tell me simply:

This can be done by simply adding "A" records to your zone file for that particular domain

with no explanation as to how to go about it. I looked in the documentation but couldn't find anything that helped.

Can someone give me some help and point me in the right direction to getting what I need done?

1. Log into WHM
2. Select Edit DNS Zone
3. Choose the DNS zone of the domain you need to manage

Add A-record entries such as you wish

smtp.yourdomain.com. IN A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
pop.yourdomain.com. IN A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the machine handling your SMTP/POP3 chores.

PS: If you edit the zone, you'll already see some existing entries (i.e., mail.yourdomain.com A-record pointing to some IP address)
