    Default DNS setup problem

    help please

tried setting up my Nameservers in WHM assigned to two seperate new IP addresses, of which one worked and the other failed. keeps saying...

'out of IPs to assign to nameservers'

removed them both and now they are both not working. it seems like theyre still assigned in some way or other..

    any idea??

Add the IPs first, and then assign the NSs. If that doesn't work via the WHM, you can do that manually at the prompt. The file you need is /etc/nameserverips

You need to edit that file, not run it. If you don't understand Linux, I'd suggest you have a good read of some of the guides and tutorials over here:

how many ips are assigned to you by the server provider ?

if you are trying to add an ip that do not belong to the server, then it might be a problem.

secondly, Andy has not asked you to "RUN' the file as u did. He asked you to open it and see. You can use text editors such as vi or pico to do that.

now as u say if those ip's are not yours then u will need to check @ WHM : Main >> Server Setup >> Edit Setup and make necessary modifications here.

in case you have any further doubts, feel free to get to me via any of the IM's available under my signature.

    you are running the ile,

    Type:
    pico /etc/nameserverips to edit it.

check if it needs any modifecations, then ctrl+x to exit,

press y to accept changes and finally enter to accept the file name.
