DNS Zone Templates

Hi all,

Does anyone know where the DNS zone templates are stored on a cPanel server, with basically the default settings? If it helps the O/S is Centos 5.3.

I have edited the "standardvirtualftp" template through WHM, but I also need to change it on a clone image that I have for future deployments. Rather than re-imaging the server I have mounted the dd image and I can see these files that match by name:

/usr/local/cpanel/cpupdatepatches/var/cpanel/zonetemplates/__revision1/patches/standardvirtualftp
/usr/local/cpanel/etc/zonetemplates/standardvirtualftp
/var/cpanel/zonetemplates/standardvirtualftp

I have checked those files, but the changes I have made in the "standardvirtualftp" template through WHM are not reflected in those files.

Does anyone know exactly which file WHM edits when you change the zone template?

If you are editing as root, it would be /var/cpanel/zonetemplates/standardvirtualftp

If you are editing as a reseller, it would be /var/cpanel/zonetemplates/USERNAME_standardvirtualftp

Where USERNAME represents your reseller account's username.

Thanks for that, I found the template located here:

/var/cpanel/zonetemplates/root_standardvirtualftp

So it seems although I was editing the template as root it seems to have appended it the same as a reseller.

Root is unusual in that it is both the global default administrator
and is also itself treated as a reseller both at the same time.

I myself would duplicate the changes you made to the zone files
to both the "root" reseller and "root" global template files just
to be totally covered.
