Default DNSOnly - Deactivate nameservers on cP/WHM servers?

    Hi guys

Just set up two servers as dedicated nameservers and everything seems to be running smooth. The question is if I now, after all customers have migrated to the new setup, can deactivate the nameservers on all the servers set up to synchronize with the main DNS servers or do I have to keep all nameservers running?

    thanks,

    T

I'm curious about this as well. I would think that you would need to leave them running otherwise cPanel would throw errors about not being able to reload the zone (although it would probably still work technically since the zone file itself would still be created and copied to the master server).

To deactivate a nameserver on any cPanel/WHM server running version 11.24 or later, simply go to: WHM -> Service Configuration -> Nameserver Selection and select Disabled then click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

so it's confirmed that it can be removed?

Or is it better we leave it and use 4 name servers as:

    example:

    ns1.cpanel.net (Dedicated DNSOnly Svr 1)
    ns2.cpanel.net (Dedicated DNSOnly Svr 2)
    ns3.host.cpanel.net (Svr's own DNS1)
    ns4.host.cpanel.net (Svr's own DNS2)

    Will it be more redundant?

We have set up 3 dedicated nameservers and removed the nameservers on the other servers. Works like a charm.
