Default it DOESNT allow me to change Main Shared Virtual Host IP

    someone help ...

i was running the main box, 1st nameserver on xxx.xxx.xxx.42

    another nameserver on .43

and .45 was my Main Shared Virtual Host IP.

i have changed Main Shared Virtual Host IP to .42 ,

things gone awry, i thought i should change it back again to another ip that is not the physical ip of the main box.

however, whm, although it seems to save the setting in EDIT SETTINGS section, DOES NOT change the Main Shared Virtual Host IP.

When i try to change a sites ip adress, .42 is always denoted as Main Shared Virtual Host IP.

where is that darned value is written in cpanel config files ?

and before that, why doesnt whm save this setting as it should be, and how i am gonna fix it.

Probably by getting someone who knows what they are doing.

You are not aware of the effects of your changes -- you can bring the sites down for 6 - 12 hrs -- and one needs to know what account you are dealing.

i am aware of what i am doing, furthermore this is not a reseller ip issue, leave aside the fact that i am the root of the box.

this is a plain issue where whm DOES NOT save the changes submitted to it.

if anyone knows where whm stores its data for Main Shared Virtual Host Ip, ill go for manual editing.

If you knew what you were doing you would not have this problem.

You would know that if you do not have have Authority for your DNS you can bring sites down when changing IP addresses, would know the difference between "Main Shared IP" for 'root' and a Reseller and would also know where the file(s) to edit are.

But hey, you are "root of the box" so have at 'er.
I promise not to post in this thread again and waste your valuable time.

that would be the best. it is not logical to make self propelled definitions about situations which one does not know what it exactly is. which was what you were doing. should you search these forums, you will notice that this is a common problem, and noone has proposed any solution to 5-6 threads which are titled main shared virtual host ip. this is a major problem of cpanel.

my sites are all working. however, i want to change the virtual host ip.

pardon me for being a little harsh on words, but id better like people who would actually be at least 'inclined' to help would post here, rather than ones who are baselessly going snob.

Sorry I am nearly 6 years late....
I figured this may help someone though as I was in the same spot you were with your original post.
You were quite right.. resellers / root accounts / dns authority blar blar blar has nothing to do with it...
What Rob says is true if you change the IP on existing sites but I tend to think that isn't your main concern at this point..
You asked a specific question and I believe the specific answer is:
Change the /etc/hosts file to the new IP you want to be the main... I rebooted just for run and all's well.
This is assuming you have already changed the IP to what you would like in your network config...
