    Default dovecot support?

I've read a few threads on here about being able to use dovecot instead of courier on my server with cPanel. Is anything happening with this? I'm really eager to use dovecot because it seems to support the .crt/.key SSL cert format that I use with Apache, whereas I don't think courier does, meaning I can't get SSL working properly with courier.

You might want to follow the changelog.

    http://changelog.cpanel.net/

    Search the page for dovecot.

I do see some references to dovecot stuff there but nothing comprehensive about whether and how I can use it. Care to elaborate?

check whether dovecot scripts are in your server

    ls /scripts|grep dovecot

You can use those scripts to convert to dovecot.

    Hello,

    I've got theses scripts :

    builddovecotconf
    convert2dovecot
    dovecot_converter

But am not sure which one(s) to use ... Maybe I should wait for the next cpanel release !

That is correct. cPanel 11.24 is when full support for Dovecot and NSD arrives.

    Hi Kenneth,

2 quick questions if you don't mind:

    1. In regards to cPanel, are the dovecot and nsd implementations designed to completely phase out courier and bind? If so, is there any approximate idea of when? Will these changes be forced, or will customers have the option of converting to either of those 2 packages indefinitely?

    2. What other major changes will be taking place in 11.24 in terms of new software being introduced (either to replace existing software, or as an enhancement to cPanel servers)? I've only heard about dovecot and nsd through these forums, and seen a little about dovecot on changelog.cpanel.net.

    Thanks for your input.

Conversion is a manual process. We are in the process of preparing documentation for both Dovecot and NSD that will explain the process (along with other functions specific to either service). The documentation will be available when 11.24 is released.

Support for Courier and BIND will remain. There are no plans to deprecate either. In particular, BIND offers functionality that some may want and NSD cannot offer.

Aside from the requisite bug fixes, full support for Dovecot and NSD are the only major changes for 11.24. Introducing support for two new applications is disruptive enough!

I applaud vendors who don't force drastic changes on their users, and to date cPanel hasn't ever really done anything like that that I can remember (mbox -> Maildir doesn't count due to the minimal amount of time it took to get familiar with how Maildir worked on cPanel servers). Your response has made any concerns I had completely vanish about as quickly as they appeared. Thanks again.

There is no process for migrating from Dovecot to Courier at this time.

As mentioned, full support for Dovecot arrives with cPanel 11.24 where at that time there will be a method for migrating from Dovecot to Courier.

If you desire help in sorting out the issues you are experiencing with Dovecot, please open a support ticket at https://tickets.cpanel.net/submit/

    Thank you.
