Drive Space warning

Hi,

i'm getting drive space warning:
Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 ext3 2.9G 2.3G 473M 84% /

Under normal installation is this used for logs etc?
How do i clean and make some breathing space

ok guys .. found out
cleared the dumping ground in the /root directory and things are better now
