    Default Dst 2007

I heard about the new Daylight Savings Time going into effect this year. Is there an update for whm/cpanel that will update to the new DST dates? Also does a patch need to be applied to the OS to reflect the new DST dates? I am worried that when the day comes all of our email will be off because the server time is off...

You will just need to download a patch for your operating system (if you haven't already done so already) that will account for the new daylight savings time start and end dates.

Does anyone know if a reboot is required after updating the time zones?

should be more or less the same.

when you run the following, does it give you the correct dates?

    /usr/sbin/zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007

It should show you Mar 11 and Nov 4th of 2007 for the changes

Also, please note that it seems to be in the most recent yum updates, so your system may already be updated. Check it by running the command above (2 posts up)

For those running Red Hat (or CentOS this applies).

    http://www.redhat.com/support/resources/faqs/dst/

In short, so long as your running at least tzdata-2005m-1, your safe.

Also do the command mentioned by ujr to verify that the current /etc/localtime has been updated from the updated tzdata files. If it hasn't, run /usr/sbin/tzdata-update or do the suggested commands mentioned in the above URL.

It amazes me why some hosting company's run their servers on local time. Unless all your clients live in your local town, it surely makes sense to run on UTC/GMT ( which never changes )

agreed kernow, but nevertheless, the tzdata needs to be updated for the system to calculate the proper times in all timezones, if you rely on system time.

If it displays the following, is this the correct TZ?

    root@destiny [~]# /usr/sbin/zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007
    /etc/localtime Sun Mar 11 06:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 01:59:59 2007 EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000
    /etc/localtime Sun Mar 11 07:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 03:00:00 2007 EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
    /etc/localtime Sun Nov 4 05:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:59:59 2007 EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
    /etc/localtime Sun Nov 4 06:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:00:00 2007 EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000
