"du" show 5.1G but "df" show 11G. How should I fix ?

"du" show 5.1G but "df" show 11G. How should I fix ?

When I login as root and used command "du -h -s", it reported only 5.1Gb.
But when I used command "df -h", it reported 11Gb.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/vzfs 11G 11G 355M 97% /
ext3 9.7G 50M 9.1G 1% /tmp


How should I do ? please advise.

A couple of things:

1. If you're having problems with quotas on a VPS you need to speak to your VPS provider asn only they will be able to fix them

2. The difference between du and df can sometimes be partly explained by incorrectly rotated log files (where the owning daemon has not detached from a deleted file) or having files open that are no longer stored in the directory file (mysql does this). If that is the cause, then a reboot will often resolve things
