Thumbs down easyapache crashes. still running previous apache on memory. what should I do now

    I.

Running easyapache to add suexec and suphpexec. 45 minutes later is everything at the same point.

    root@ [/usr/local/apache]# ls
    ./ ../ conf/ conf_pre_ea3/ domlogs/ logs/
    root@ [/usr/local/apache]#
apache was removed, including my conf.2008-10-08.bck directory (grrrrrrr)
I have other from last sunday at a locally backup and backup of backup at ftp backup server, so no problem, but you should not do rm -fr /usr/local/apache

    root@ [/usr/local/apache]# tail -f /usr/local/cpanel/logs/easy/apache/build.1223501742

What should I do now? Kill easyapache process and run it again? It's safe?

    To help others:

easyapache is allways crashing. According to cPanel support (quick reply - 10 minutes reply - thank you):
We are continuing to troubleshoot at this time. Currently, there is an
EasyApache build running, and I noticed you had killed off previous running
EasyApache builds before. I cannot stress enough that you cannot kill these
off, as that's when Apache problems will occur. If something is not correct,
let the build finish, and then fix it with a new build.
I do not believe this, I'm sorry.
    root@ [/usr/local]# ps -aux |grep easy
    root 15125 0.0 0.6 181780 49228 ? Ss 01:20 0:03 [bg installer] /scripts/./easyapache
    root 22157 0.0 0.0 61156 732 pts/0 S+ 09:15 0:00 grep easy
    root@ [/usr/local]# date
    Thu Oct 9 09:15:52 WEST 2008
    root@ [/usr/local]#
In my case, this script is running for 9 hours.... I can make it mannually in less than one hour! I do not believe this is running well, Im sorry. I must kill it sometime.

easyapache logs, after 9 hours running:
    root@ [/usr/local/cpanel/logs/easy/apache]# tail -f build.1223511491
!! Backup of working apache complete. !!

!! Start: Silent httpupdate request !!

!! End: Silent httpupdate request !!

Checking that all tarballs are present and up to date.
Checking that all packages are present and up to date.
!! Continuing Build in background !!
    root@ [/usr/local/cpanel/logs/easy/apache]# tail -f build.1223511491.env

    [VISUAL]
    pico

    [_]
    /scripts/./easyapache

    [maketext_obj]
    Cpanel::CPAN::Locale::Maketext::Pseudo=HASH(0x15e37f00)

By the way, all easyapache .env logs ends at this point.

In the meanwhile I discovered easyapache creates a copy of original directory on same level (cPanel staff rocks! ). In my case:
    /usr/local/apache.backup_archive/20081009.1223511491/
I made this backup my default apache directory at /usr/local/apache/ and started apache ok. I need to do it because I can not have my sites down for more than 9 hours, as you can imagine. I'll try it again during the weekend, but I will not kill the process.

    Regards.

easyapache still running 14 hours left. it's impossible to be ok...

    root 15125 0.0 0.6 181780 49228 ? Ss 01:20 0:03 [bg installer] /scripts/./easyapache

    root@ [/etc/rc.d/init.d]# date
    Thu Oct 9 15:11:20 WEST 2008
    root@ [/etc/rc.d/init.d]#

I will now left cPanel staff make their job and then I'll update this topic. Maybe help others in the future.

    Regards.

    Thumbs up

    Updating.

Many thaks to cPanel support. No updates, including easyapache, are runnig on this server just because yum databases corrupt.
    They cleaned them up with:
    cd /var/lib/rpm
    ls
    mkdir /root/old_rpm_dbs/
    mv __db* /root/old_rpm_dbs/
    ls
    rpm --rebuilddb
    yum clean all
    yum update
Now running apache+php and suphp, suexec and php_MailHeaders. That's easiest to find spammers

    Regards.

Never forget your backups. WHM manage them automatically and httpd.conf is one of the saved files.
