email aging - gone?

Hi,

We had a customer ask about email aging - the CPANEL image for "Aging" is in the image legend on the bottom of the page, but no "aging" link/button appears next to the email accounts. Is this feature not compatible with maildirs or has it been removed from cpanel?

It was built into cppop so its no longer valid.

you can check the aging button in cpanel>>mails>> in front of your mail id you will see Aging

Mail aging is the process in which e-mails will be removed from the server automatically, upon successful log out of a pop3 session. This deletion will only occur if the messages are older then a specified amount of days.

Note: E-mail aging will only work with pop3 sessions.
(Enter the no of day and press submit button )

Number of days to keep e-mail:

I am new to this forum so I apologize if you've already answered this or that I am an idiot for asking the following but...

I understand it (aging) was built into cppop so its no longer valid but is there any chance that an aging utility can be added back in - in the future? I found this to be an extremely valuable tool. Are you aware of any work-arounds in the interim?

The problem is that cppop was written by cPanel whereas the default servers are courier-imap which would mean cPanel producing custom versions of that established application which cPanel might not wish to do for something that falls outside of the requirements of a POP3 server.

An alternative would be to write a script that checks the age of emails within the maildir/new maildir/cur directory of an enabled account and to delete any emails that are older than a certain age.

I know we could absolutely add that functionality back via a script, but that would definitely a nice feature to have back for customers that only understand how to use the cPanel and not SSH. Thanks for the info Chirpy, we will do via a script.

what would said script look like? I have a client asking for something similar. And for some of the old ones that haven't been migrated or don't want to migrate to googApps that'd work to as they keep hitting their quota all the time no matter how big I make their box...

I just want to revive this thread and put in a vote to bring back the aging option. Not having it has turned into a real pain in the proverbial for me. I'm constantly wasting time notifying clients about full mail boxes and sorting out the mess for them ...Aging rocks!
