Default email routing issue with cpanel (send but not receive mails)

I have a site through http://hostingxp.net/ and we are trying to figure out why I can send email from both outlook, thunderbird and webmail but i cannot receive email. I have try sending email to my user from gmail, yahoo, and msn mail but when I open the sites webmail or check the pop mail I am not receiving anything either through webmail (horde etc) or my normal mail apps. I have been working with the admin and we deleted and recreated my whole account but nothing changed.

The only thing I did manage to do was test changing the unrouted maill address to my user and then I was able to receive unrouted messages from users names that I don't have on my server or other websites.

What could be the issue. I troubleshoot email issues all the time at work but this is ridiculous. How do we check if mail for a domain is being routed correctly?

Well, you've described the issue well, but people would need more information such as your pop / smtp servers before they can help you.

You need to track the progress of an email through the exim log files - /var/log/exim_mainlog

Do you have any auto responders?

All of our accts with autoresponders are sending responses to the email sender but NOT delivering the email

We are on 10.2.0 R67 Running RH Enterprise

ask your host if the messages are sitting in the queue, also when you send a message, does it get bounced to where you sent it to?

I have a feeling your mail is geting frozen in exim, if they force the queue they can see why its being frozen. Mail doesnt just disappear.

At any rate, this problem shouldnt be occuring, your webhost should know how to fix this stuff, id consider finding a new host.

We have done this in the past, and found nothing. Then, we had Mr. Smith send out a e-mail meesage for a test, then all of the sudden erros started poping up The errors are as following:

No, there is never mail in queue

Any ideas? This only seems to affect his account, and no one elses.

    Default clarification

Paul - Just for some info.

I sent a test message to test@sbcmailtest.com - it is an autoresponder where I work.
I use it everyday to test email settings for our customers. I never got a response.

I can send email with Thunderbird using my nimeous.com mail server to my yahoo.com email address. Here is the message with the header. But when I replied to the email with my yahoo account I never receive a message. I have used 3 different webmail accounts and never received a message or an error stating that the mail was never received.

Now if I goto Default Address Maintenance and change it from :blackhole: and set it to asmodeus@nimeous.com. I start receiving not only my messages but also any other junk thats not routed.

So the problem is that my mail is not being routed by exim but exactly how do we fix it? Deleting and re-creating the account didn't fix it? So whats next? Is exim just not routing the email accounts that were created for this domain? This seems more like a bug with exim than anything else.

    Anybody have any ideas?

Can you set the Default address to :fail: instead of :blackhole: then you should be able to see why the email got rejected in the bounced email.

Does fail because the nameservers for chirper.net are not responding.

The recipient address (or catchall) has been set to :blackhole:

    All perfectly reasonable rejections.

You haven't fallen into the trap where if you set the Default Address to :fail: or :blackhole: (you should always use :fail:) that you have to create a virtual POP3 account for the cPanel username@yourdomain.com to keep receiving email to the account and change your email client to login to retrieve POP3 email from the account username@yourdomain.com and not just username?

Default fail or blackhole - hmm

well the default setting is blackhole. keep in mind all we did was delete and recreate the acount completely (which means erasing all my files and settings) I will try fail and see what it turns up.

Now you were saying something about the account being a virtual name. It shows that the email is a virtual alias in the logs we posted above.. Shouldn't it say it is a mailbox? I double checked the account settings and I am using just the userid without the domain to login to the mail server. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like in Thunderbird.

After I set the default to fail I got this message back.
