Question Error from domain wrapper domain.com | domain.co.uk is owned by another user

Not sure if anybody can help?

Have set up an account and master domain in WHM. Trying to addon domains:

    • addondomain.com
    • addondomain.co.uk
    • addondomain.TLD

The first addon domain added fine, but adding the second, I get the error:

Error from domain wrapper addondomain.accountdomain.com is owned by another user.

I want to add multiple domains with different TLDs however the subdomain being added isn't allowing me to add more than one.

Not sure where to go from here...

In WHM top of left menu type in the word sub, in the result click List Subdomains. Find addondomain.accountdomain.com and check username. Is it showing the correct user here or someone else, like root or a reseller?

Were you logged into cPanel as the user when you created the 2nd addon?

The account you setup, does the package for that account allow for addon domains?

Not sure I can help, just poking for clues.

Thanks for the quick reply Infopro

Your hints have definitely solved the issue for me here... it's not a config issue, more a 'run before we walk' 'too eager to get things setup' scenario....silly me!

The subdomain/ftp username I was entering was the same username (for simplicity sake), which in turn creates the same subdomain which already existed.

Seeing as they're all pointing to the same folder (but need to keep unique host names / no redirection) the quickest solution is to stage the subdomain to that of addondomaincom, addondomaincouk etc - logically that seems to be the way anyway... or is there an alternative method I should be considering?

Thanks again, we gotta allow for that 3% human error rule hey?

I give myself more than 3% but yes sure.

I'm not sure I follow the rest of your post, you're saying you created the 2nd addondomain using a username already in use? If yes, yep, that's the problem. You're creating an addondomain that does need to have it's own username and password.

To quote you: "for simplicity sake" once these addons are created, you can access all of them via the main cPanel user account. Logged in via cPanel or FTP client.

    HTH!
