    Default

    Execute: pstree | grep named

It should return a line with named processes; if it doesn't you should do a couple of things:

    1. service named stop
    2. service named stop (to make sure all named processes are dead)
    3. service named start

If that doesn't return an okay value, then you should: tail -f /var/log/messages and look for named errors. That will help you disagnose the issue.

Fix the problem that's being reported in the messages log and then attempt to start the daemon up again: service named start
