Is there a way to exclude a pattern match from the standard cpbackup?

For example, I've recently started using the spam box option to move suspected spam into a spam mailbox vs. deleting it on site. But as I don't see a reason to spend the cpu time or disk io to keep backing up the spam boxes day after day after day so I'd like to exclude all the spam and trash mailboxes from the daily backup.
