Default Exim: 421 Lost incoming connection

Customers are getting the following type of messages from exim (Multiple customers/multiple domains on the same server). Does anyone know what it means and how to correct it?

The SMTP transaction started in line 0.

This is still happening today. POP email is down during this time. Several customers are affected. I have reset POP and Exim, for good measure. The problem still exists.

Surely I am not the only person having this problem? Seems related to a recent upgrade?

If sending a test mail to my address and checking the inbox files on the server - it never arrives there. So, it's not a matter I cannot collect mails (only get "no new messages") - they never make it to the inbox on the server at all.

Ummm, yep. Confirmed. Still happening. Nothing seems to correct the problem. Green lights on service manager for POP, and resetting server has not solved the problem.

Although it's obvious that the Services themselves are running properly, it's also obvious there is a problem with some of the Server files -- possibly DNS or Mail related. Using this link:

    http://dnsreport.com/

does it show any errors, especially for Mail?

I have never seen or heard of this problem and, like any new problem, would start at the beginning with my troubleshooting.

Dnsreports.com gives a clean report. There are a few warnings concerning SOA expire times, but nothing in red.

Mail report shows a clean catch with no warnings. This truely is bizarre.

Ah, I knew this wasn't just my problem. Obviously, others are having the problem, even if you do not yet know it.

Abe thinks he fixed it. See this thread. I will verify shortly.

Cannot confirm that the fix Abe used works. My server still has problems with POP email. All customers seem to be affected. Customers can send email but cannot receive POP email. Webmail works fine.

    Any suggestions? Anyone??

Check /var/log/exim_mainlog. It should tell you why it failed.

    I finally figured this out.

Users who had spam assassin enabled were getting the 421 error and users who were not using spam assassin were not getting the error.

Thus, I figured out that Spam Assassin was the common denominator. It was not working properly, probably corrupted. Anyway, I fixed spam assassin and the customers stopped receiving 421 errors.

I forgot what I did, but I believe /etc/localdomains had the wrong hostname

    Bmcpanel,

Could you inform us how you fix the spamassassin problem ?

We have look into /etc/localdomains and /etc/valiases,
    the domains are there.

If we disable the spamassassin the problem is gone.

We are using cpanel 9.0.0 R25.

    Thank you.
