Default Exim crashing on incoming SMTP

Exim stopped working yesterday. Upon recieving the SMTP command MAIL FROM: &user@domain&, the connection is immediately terminated. /var/log/exim_paniclog shows exim to be getting killed by signal 4:
2003-01-26 11:39:26 queue run: process 27396 crashed with signal 4 while delivering 18cpPe-0006Sp-00

kill-l reveals signal 4 to be SIGILL, the signal for illegal instruction.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

    Default

Did you get a chance to check the content of the email Exim attempted to deliver?

The rest of those who have gone before us cannot steady the unrest of those to follow.
