exim problem

hello all, sorry if my question seems really stupid but i am a newbie and i really dont know what to do in this situation, everything on the server seems to be working fine but any email arent going in or out from the server, i was told to try telneting the server at the ports used by server software to see if everything is working fine and i did but i did not get any answer from SMTP on 25 port ... in WHM on server status exim seems to be working fine ... what should i do ? please help Thanks in advance.
