    Default Exim Problem

    I have many users comlaining that half the time my mail server gives this error.

    Sending' reported error (0x800CCC65) :
    'Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you
    continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
    Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 503 Valid RCPT TO
    <recipient> must precede DATA'

    I look in the rejectlog and I see this

    2003-03-05 18:56:33 refused relay (host) to <mike@vortechdomain.com> from <brooks@domain.com> H=(DESKTOP) [24.117.73.xxx]
    (failed to find host name from IP address)

    I read some posts that said you can turn off the reverse requirement in /etc/exim.conf except I don;t have one. I run this on freebsd.

    Please help

    This seems to be a bug in the latest cpanel Exim keep fails

    I got this also
    2004-10-25 12:47:44 queue run: process 7295 crashed with signal 11 while delivering 1CM7ci-0008Nw-7U
    but I have solve it, actually Tech support of my data center solve it.
    I think they forced new installation of Exim only

    Thumbs up Possible Resolution!?

    I had a problem in that some of my users could not receive or send mail yet others could do fine. I found out that there is a file called /etc/localdomains which holds all the domain names on the server.

    Now, my domain name should be in as domainname.co.uk yet for some reason, there was an error and the domain read domainname.co.uk.otheruser.co.uk. This meant that none of my email was coming through or sending.

    I changed it back to domainname.co.uk and all works fine straight away. There was 3 other accounts that where also effected.

    Might be worth checking this out if you have further mail problems as after two days of searching it sorted my server.

    Adam.

    Hi everyone,

    None of the solutions in this topic worked (I'm running a FreeBSD server)

    Neither did some in other topics like:
    restart /etc/init.d/antirelayd

    This solution:
    +++++++++++++++++
    actually i just fixed it on my server.

    Here is what i did:

    locate the following line in your /etc/exim.conf

    host_accept_relay = +allow_address : lsearch;/etc/relayhosts : localhost

    (it may look different, depending on your setting, then simply look for the "host_accept_relay" entry)

    and now change the "lsearch;/etc/relayhosts" to
    "net-lsearch;/etc/relayhosts"

    This rather trivial modification fixed the issue on my server.
    Problem was, that "lsearch" didn't go through the /etc/relayhosts lines, whereas "net-lsearch" works just fine.
    ...don't forget to restart exim to make the changes work.
    +++++++++++++++++
    Didn't work because I could only find one instance of a host_accept_relay entry and that was as a comment, with # in front of it (part of manual)

    I'm currently just using another SMTP host, but I'd like mine to work...

    Can anyone help?

    Thx,
    Ken
