Eximstats / MySQL problem - access denied

After upgrading the MySQL last time via WHM, I changed the MySQL root password from Shell. Now when I restart Cpanel, I got the following error:

Starting eximstats: DBI connect('eximstats:localhost','eximstats',...) failed: Access denied for user: 'eximstats@localhost' (Using password: YES) at /usr/local/cpanel/bin/eximstats line 256
Can't Connect at /usr/local/cpanel/bin/eximstats line 259.

I reset the root password via WHM again. But still got the same error message. Can someone suggest how to fix it?

We're seeing a similar error:

I found this when searching a while back when MySQL was down. So if it works for you lets bless the soul that came up with this.

login via ssh

run the commands as follows:

killall mysqld
safe_mysqld --skip-grant-tables &
/usr/local/cpanel/startup

Then login into WHM reset the MySQL root
password.

go back to ssh...

killall mysqld
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql start

Hope this resolves your issue with MySQL. Doing it this way has always got it back up and running for me.
