    Default File Functions not Working

Why is it that files / folders have to be chmodded 0777 in order for me to edit / delete them with PHP?

Probably because you you're using php as a module and not with phpsuexec which means that php scripts run under the nobody user account and the files are owned by the cPanel accounts. If you'e recently moved from php module to phpsuexec make sure that your files aren't owned by nobody user.

If you're an end-user, you need to speak to your web hosting provider about such issues.
