File server

Hello i would like to set up a file server just for data and games nothing to do with my sites can this be done or do i have to use one of the domains FTP to do this,i also wanted to use one of the dedicated ip,s i have on the server?Can this be done.

Please let me know if I understand your inquiry correctly:

You want to have a file server (separate from a cPanel/WHM server) just for serving data and running game servers.

Did you want this file server to store the files used by the cPanel/WHM server?

It does not have to be seperate i just dont want anyone to have access to anything else on the server exept the files i place in a dir.

as a work-around you could create a new account in whm and give it a domain of a sub-directory for your domain. ie "files.yourdomain.com" and then login to its cpanel and setup an ftp account. you can then use FTP, BUT you can also use webdisk instead -- this will allow you to use it like it were a folder on your computer. Also, If you want to let other people download your files you could install a small php application to index the files and directories into the cpanel account, which they could access at "files.yourdomain.com" or whatever you named it. I would recommend checking out autoindex for this, it has neat features including the ability to setup password access. Also, for extra security the files that you dont want accessible through a browser... you could put them in a directory BELOW "public_html" (or "www") and they would still be accessible via ftp or webdisk.
