Default File Size Difference during migration

I am migrating from one cpanel / whm server to a new server also with cpanel/whm.

I am using the transfer tool that is on whm. However the total size of the account migrated is not the same. For exemple if a account is 4.6MB it migrates with 3.5MB something like that.. always less MB.

Can anyone please tell me what's going on ?

    Thank!

Did you check if the mails were migrated with the account?

I had issues with some transfers regarding the mail accounts.
Some times the mail accounts were not transferred.

Check there, maybe that's what is making the difference.

    Thanks

You need to create the same accounts at the new server, and then you can sync the old server directories content to the new server directories.

The accounts mails are under /home/<user>/mail/<domain>/<account_name>

You should transfer the accounts normally and, after they transfer, if there are discrepancies, run a "du -sh /home/username/*" on both machines to see what is the difference to be sure it is the email.

If it is the email, then you could scp over the files, but only do that after you've transferred the accounts. Please do not create the accounts on the new machine prior to transferring them using WHM. If you do, they won't transfer due to the account already existing.

After I migrate an account. It looks like this.

    OLD SERVER:
    [root@***** donateco]# du -sh
    80M .

    NEW SERVER:
    root@***** [/home/donateco]# du -sh
    62M

I checked and all subfolders has different sizes. I thinking maybe it does not copy log files, mail spam ?

    what else could be this?

    Thanks?

You'd need to provide a breakdown for each folder using the exact command I noted which should give you a breakdown for each folder.

Of note, since the account is active when you are packaging and transferring it, there will be differences in emails and log files. If you want to avoid that, you'd have to shut the site down until it has been moved by suspending it temporarily.

    Hi Again...

I already did it (du -sh) for all subfolders and They ALL have differences.

I am trying to believe this is some kind of log or junk that didn't need to get copied.

Is the version of OS matters ?
    OLD SERVER: Centos 4.9
    NEW SERVER: Centos 5.6

Also... all sites seems to be working fine after the migration. I didn't change the DNS yet but on the new IP it seems to be working fine even though has less space in disk.

Without knowing for every single folder what the actual differences are, and you haven't indicated if you'd check each in fine-grain detail like that to know what each differs for exactly, it isn't possible to tell you what is happening. I cannot speculate further at this point. We either need the information or you can simply believe they fully copied.

For fine-grain detail, this means inside the folder not just at the folder level. Please take one of the folders you aren't certain why it differs and check inside the folder to see what contents are there for files. If there are more folders in that folder, then go into each folder in it and see what files are in there on both the old and new server. This allows you to see with fine-grain details what is there and what isn't there.

Additionally, you have some folders on the old machine that don't exist on the new machine and vice versa. It's weird to me that this account has totally different folders such as the old one not having .cpanel/nvdata on it.
