Default Forced Update Eating up Ram + crashed cPanel.

I left this morning, and my server was running perfectly fine, I needed to update cPanel but since the server installers for some reason put perl 5.8.5 on I turned auto updated off, cPanel has now tried to update, and It states that it was completed, however cPanel/WHM have crashed, but the services still allow pings in and out. When in SSH I can barely do any functions, no yum rpm, or any cPanel scripts work. Can someone explain how to fix this?

I would recommend you upgrade to Perl 5.8.8 if you are still on 5.8.5

I would, but there is no ram left to do an update. I can't even send the restart command there is that little amount of ram left, it takes a few minutes just to get the perl version.

EDIT: killing the hung update process and rebooting corrected the instability

For this you can downgrade the maximum memory limit in Tweak Settings:
Main >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings >> System >>

You will find “The maximum memory a cpanel process can use before it is killed off (in megabytes). Values less than 64 megabytes can not be specified:”

This should lessen the memory usage for cpanel scripts atleast.

Thereafter kill all the services and restart them.

Portions of WHM may not function properly if values under 128 MB are specified. Hence the later builds of cPanel 11 specify that values under 128 cannot be specified.

    Yes David Sir !

    By the following :
“The maximum memory a cpanel process can use before it is killed off (in megabytes). Values less than 64 megabytes can not be specified:”

What I meant was you will find the above line in the Tweak Settings & you can downgrade to anything which is reasonable for that server.
