Forward Mail to MS Exchange server after spam assassin

I have a client that wants to do the following

So I am wondering if it is possible to mix SMTP delivery direct to my Exchange server with the spam assassin/email filter that I have? In other words I would like any email for my domain to go thru spam assassin, then thru the filter and (if the filter doesn't delete it) forward it to the SMTP server on my Exchange box.

Is this possible, and if so, how would I implement it?

Any help is apreciated.

Yes, it's possible. Do a search on the forums for exim smart router and you should get some threads that address how to do this.

Just want to verify that the above referenced post would work for a domain whereas the DNS zone has an MX record to an exchange server?

Hi Alex,

Not sure what you mean. In this case, the MX record would point to your server where email would be received, processed and routed on to the exchange server. If the MX simply points to the exchange server, there's no need for a smart router as all email should be going to the exchange server anyway. In those cases, you should only have to remove the domain from /etc/localdomains and put it into /etc/remotedomains so that local email is relayed off-server for that domain.

Actually I have the MX record pointing to an "A" record, which then points to the exchange servers IP.

Good, as you indeed should In that case, there's no need for a smart router as no email should arrive for that domain.

This what I had originally thought. I just was thinking of providing them with an additional layer of spam protection and was not clear if it could be done with the current configuration.
