    Default FreeBSd 4.8 Quota Problem

    I am running freebsd 4.8. Right now any accounts i add have unlimited disk space. I need to prevent this.

    I ran /scripts/fixquotas and it gives me this error.

    root@dasher:/usr/local/bin$ /scripts/fixquotas
    Quotas are now on

    I check the cpanel and it still says unlimited users. I also tried uploading files and it exceeds 5 megs which can be concluded that quota isnt working

    I then tried running
    /scripts/initquota
    root@dasher:/usr/local/bin$ /scripts/initquotas
    Quotas are now on

    Still no luck in fixing any of these problems. If there are any one running freebsd and would like to assist me in how to solve this problem it will be greatly appreciated.

    Yah in FreeBSD its a little bit more complicated, quotas are not enabled in Kernel as default, so you'll have to compile a new kernel to enable quotas.

    check:

    http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO...ok/quotas.html

    I had the same problem, I had to modify the following things;

    In /etc/fstab I had to change the following line;

    /dev/ad2s1g /usr ufs rw, 2 2

    to the following;

    /dev/ad2s1g /usr ufs rw,userquota,groupquota 2 2

    Works like a charm now...
    (Thats after you recompile the kernel with quota support).

    Thank for the link. I need to do this for my server. I have never compiled a kernel before so I'll need to make appropriate backup procedures. What files should I backup? Any addional help you can offer would be great. I'll search the FreeBSD site for support, but it can be above my beginner level of knowledge.

    Don't you think that cPanel should tell you that the default FreeBSD install will not install quota support? There's so many little quirks like this.

    Thanks again.
