    Question freebsd portupgrade?

I'm running cpanel/whm on freebsd and I wanted to make sure that its okay to use the freebsd port tree and portupgrade to upgrade things occasionally.. I've been letting the port tree get upgraded with the cpanel tree but there are several packages that haven't been updated and have freebsd security alerts on them such as apache and exim.

So in short, is it okay to use the freebsd port tree and to use portupgrade even if there are not updates for the packages (apache/exim) from cpanel?

    Thanks

port update will not update the packages installed
just the available ports you may install
    go ahead and run it

that is not how freebsd works

if you update the portlist it does not update the installed packages

if it did the guys at cpanel would no have an option to auto update ports.

right, but I'm not talking about just updating the port list. cvsup updates the portlist. I'm then talking about using portupgrade to update the installed packages.
