ftp 530 error

Created ftp user in cpanel's ftp manager and cannot login using:

domain.com
user@domain.com
password

DNS zone is of course correct. Seemed to be a problem after the transfer from old cpanel server.

Resolving domain.com...
Connect socket #740 to xx.x.179.254, port 21...
220 (vsFTPd 1.2.1)
USER user@domain.com
331 Please specify the password.
PASS **********
530 Login incorrect.

I'm 100% sure user/password is right. This happened on my cpanel server before (the old one). I'm using pureftpd not pro.

Specs:
cPanel 9.9.9 R70
PureFTP
Fedora Core 2

Steps:
/scripts/rebuildproftpd
/scripts/fixproftpdconf
/scripts/restartsrv_proftpd
/scripts/ftpupdate
/scripts/ftpup
/scripts/buildpureftproot
/scripts/ftpup --force pureftpd

How can I correct this?

Now getting ftpserver: [500 != 220]

/etc/rc.d/init.d/vsftpd stop and then restart ftp server in whm

its trying to use vsftpd instead of pro or pure

Awesome that fixed problem #842 LOL, do you know about the first issue? I cannot login to any user created FTP account. I've had this probelm in the past and the perosn that fixed it gave me the directions which led to the second problem that you just helped me fix
