FTP backup questions

I'm all Jazzed up by the new remote FTP backup option in Cpanel, but I have a couple of questions.

1. If I enable remote backup, will the normal backup be made to my second hard drive, or is it more of - choose local OR remote backup?

2. What happens if my destination server is on a slow pipe? Does WHM simply backup everything to the backup drive, then ftp it to the dest. server?

Anyone know how to make it backup to a 2nd hard drive, AND backup to FTP?
