Ftp connections from localhost

I am just getting going with my first box running cPanel/WHM
Every day ever since I set the box up my logs have tons of ftp connections from localhost and then just time out. This happens over and over again. If i list all the running processes this line is always present

nobody 14272 0.0 0.3 3508 1848 ? S 01:08 0:00 proftpd: connected: localhost (127.0.0.1:49575)

Anyone have any ideas what is causing this ?

This is caused by the daemon checking agent on cPanel boxes. Nothing to be worried about really and it should disconnect and not timeout. You may also want to switch to pure-ftpd as it is a much stronger ftp daemon.

mysql killing server. high load. 1,000s of connections from localhost.
