FTP issues Can't connect to remote server. Socket error = #10054.

I have a client that keeps complaining that he is getting this error:

ERROR:> Can't connect to remote server. Socket error = #10054.

Does anyone know what would cause that.

I have done a search here and on google and nothing really seems to be working.

Could this be a firewall issue on the server?

I am using apf with bfd.

If it could be the firewall should I use kiss firewall (I think that is the name of it)?

It is kinda strange that no one else is emailing me about this.

Depending on the ftp client used it sounds like either a passive mode issue or attempting to upload a file that exceeds the limits you have set.

Wouldn't suggest changing your firewall for only one customer.

I am just using out of the box pure-ftp via cpanel install. I guess I will have to look at the settings in the config I assume.

I told him to try not to use passive mode. This is what he said:

Your suggestion for changing from passive to port would work if I was using passive. PASV
However, the setting are for PORT and I've tried it both ways and I've tried auto detect.

He is using cute ftp pro 7.1 I think.

If anyone else has a suggestion let me know as I will try to change what or look at what sawbuck has suggested.
