    Default ftp login alarmism?

    cPanel FTP Manager writes

    > When logging into the ftp server please use the username exactly as it appears
    > below. If the username includes a "@", make sure to include it when logging in.
    > Example: Use "john@doe.org" and not "john".

    > Make sure that you connect to ftp.doe.com with your FTP client or
    > you may not be able to login.

    e.g. I should use

    ftp://john@doe.orgassword@ftp.doe.com

yet I find the more convenient

    ftp://johnassword@addondomain.com

    works fine .

Is there some reason I should not use the more convenient one?

    Thanks.

    Default

You must use the long one on sub-FTP accounts.

You have the FTP login john by default because that is your cPanel account name

When creating FTP accounts in cPanel, lets say you create one called jane.

Jane will always have to login as user jane@doe.org

    ftp://jane@doe.org:password@ftp.doe.org

That might not work because of the two @ signs. In that case, replace the @ with %40:

    ftp://jane%40doe.org:password@ftp.doe.org
