FTP Logs in Then Hangs

For all accounts on my server, you can login via FTP then it hangs after giving this message:

Server Type: UNIX (standard)

I've tried restarting ProFTPD, but it didn't help (says it restarts OK). I tried switching to Pure FTP, but I don't think the switch really succeeded, because my FTP program always reports a welcome from ProFTPD. Then I switched back to ProFTPD, same thing.

Just started happening tonight...

This server is the most problem-free one I've ever run. Until tonight...

Any insights?

Forget it, looks like my client FTP program died. With another one it's fine.
