    Default FTP Permissions

    Greetings everyone.

Recently had someones account transferred to a server of mine through WHM, now all of their directories are giving a permission denied error when trying to upload. All directories appear to have the appropriate permissions, although won't allow uploads.

Is there a script to run or solution to this FTP permission error

    Help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Have you checked the ownership of the files and directories?

    Hi tswaibel,

As suggested by Marty, try to check the ownership of the files and directories and make sure that any chrooting is applied for that user.

    Regards,

How would I do this ? And what would I need to do isf there was something wrong ? Do I chmod just the directory /homeusername with usermae:username ?
Or all files under it too ?

    Just do this

    chown username.username /home/USERNAME/public_html -R
    chown username.nobody /home/USERNAME/public_html

This will solve your permission probs. I have seen this too many times and the above always solves it.

It didn't do much at all. Is it username.username or username:username ? Becuase I tried the one with " . " and that didn't do anything at all. No change. When I did the " : " it fave me a forbidden error. I ended up doing something I'm not sure I'm supposed to.

Can you tell me what the chmod value for those files and folders should should be ? Especailly the /user folder and home/public_html

    Thanks

Its a ".". You need to see what permissions it shows after doing this.

    /usr folder is root.root

    /home/public_html should be user.nobody
However all the files inside the public_html should be user.user

    Thanks

Sorry about the previous email - I was asking about what value the CHMOD would be - like 666, 640, 755 ... like those .

and I was asking for the /home/user and and files inside it (those other folders, and .something values), and /home/user/public_html folder and /home/user/public_html
    /home/user/public_html/files

Inside public_html keep whatever permissions you need for the files there. Its basically web readible folder, so act accordingly.
