FTP stopped working suddenly

Hi,

FTP was working fine but suddenly it has stopped working.

When trying to connect it connects fine but stops at LIST command and then times out.

Can anyone tell me whats happening ?

Check with your hosting provider to see if there was any temporary issue with their server.

Hi,

FTP firewall settings needed to be adjusted. And don't know how it got bad. It was working fine for years.

Hi, I've experienced the same problem right on May 17! Can you post what the firewall settings you had to tweak were?

Nevermind actually, I figured it out... it appears the on May 17 there was some kind of update of pureftp or the apf firewall, I dunno, but basically I did this:

- I checked /etc/pure-ftpd.conf and saw that this line was in there:
PassivePortRange 30000 50000

- I checked the APF firewall configuration in /etc/apf/conf.apf and verified that the 30000 to 50000 port range was enabled in IG_TCP_CPORTS and IG_UDP_CPORTS (entered as 30000_50000).

- I restarted both APF and PureFTP

Voila, seems to work fine!

Yes that was the issue:
The ftp passive port range in the firewall was not opened. As soon as I opened it and restarted everything started working fine.
