FTP unreliable since WHM 11
I noticed something was wrong. I couldn't create new accounts. My IT people fixed the account issue but now I have unreliable FTP.
FTP is no longer reliable on my server since it was upgraded to WHM 11. It has been rolled back to WHM 10.8. But now the problem is still there. Some clients can't ftp at all. Others have intermittent FTP. I have clients that have not been able to FTP for over 24 hours and are pissed. What is up with WHM 11? Why is FTP no longer reliable? Any one else have this problem with WHM 11? There are 109 accounts on the server and I don’t have time to check each account. It took less than an hour to mess up the FTP. Isn’t there a way to fix this with out logging into 109 accounts. How responsive is WHM/Cpanel support when you submit a ticket. I’m about at that point. My IT people have been trying for 24 hours to fix this and have not. Any one else notice flaky ftp since WHM 11? Last edited by sallen812; 06-11-2007 at 01:34 PM. |

OK found that will give it a try and post results.
Yes that worked. Switching to "Active Mode" in File Zilla. But what changed and where? Was this because of WHM 11. Somthing Godaddy did (thats where the server is) This does not fix the issue for clients that are using IE to FTP. Some clients are cheap and just want to FTP through IE. What changed to and can I change it back? Thanks for the help Last edited by sallen812; 06-11-2007 at 02:59 PM. |

So things are back to normal.
If this problem happens to you. See if you can FTP in using an FTP client that supports "Active Mode". If you can then check the config on the server for FTP see if the ports are setup right for “Passive Mode”. Yes you will have to shell in or have your support people do it. I'm now having this exact same problem.
I was uploading fine earlier, had no trouble until the connection timed out. After that I was unable to reconnect to any FTP accounts. I'm using CSF, tried disabling it as a fix but no joy. I've tried the switch between passive and active, even tried switching from Pure-ftpd to Proftpd then back again too. At no point up until the error had I changed any configurations on my server, seems strange that this would suddenly happen. I'm wondering if perhaps I have had a temporary ban from my DC's in house firewall? If anyone has any advice then I'd be grateful to hear it. |
