Default google your log files: anyone tried splunk yet?

Trawling through log files can be a real pain. I don't do it very often, but when I do, the first 10 minutes is spent reminding myself of where they all are and how best to search them them.

    So this looks promising: http://www.splunk.com/

Anyone tried it? Feedback? Might take it for a spin myself...

The Pro version needs Native Posix Thread Library not sure if the free version requires it too

    According to the download page
Most 2.6 kernels and a few pre 2.6 support NPTL.

    Thumbs up

After reading this yesterday I gave it a go on my test box running TaoLinux4 and it works well. But that box is right in front of me and I can bring up localhost in my browser to access this.
The pro version is certainly out of my league though.

I just use logcheck which does the job just fine for me and emails me anything unusual in whatever logs I configure it to scan.
