    Default Hardware upgrade

    Hello everyone,

I'm not sure what to upgrade on this server right now so please go ahead and suggest.

    Currently:
    Intel P4 2.8 GHZ
    1 GB RAM
    80 GB space
    10Mbit port

I was wondering if a RAM upgrade would make a difference.

Well, first let me ask you ... what makes you think you need the upgrade?

Is the server slow? (is it because it's overloaded or maybe it's the connection?)
Are you running out of space?
    Are you using many databases?

Adding RAM always helps, and is always good. If you need drive space, then up your drive.

Otherwise a 2.8 with 80Gb HD, 1Gb Ram is quite nice as long as your sites on it are not too popular and large, or if you are not running things that contstantly use CPU RAM, etc.

The server is not slow however I think the cPanel is a -bit- slow. I'm not running out of space & there are around 36 accounts on the server & 72 databases. The process that usually take the most of the server is MySQL.

    In my opinion, ...

With a well tuned server, and assuming these accounts are not getting millions of hits per month, nor generating images, or something else non-stop, ...

I think you should be just FINE!

Ram is always welcome ... mysql loves it, so do many apps.

I just wanted to add, if you don't have a second drive for backups, you may actually want to make that the priority
