HELP: Moving accounts to dedicated

Hi

Ive been souring these threads for a while now for help on a move we have coming up. We are moving from 2 seperate reseller accounts to our own dedicated server. We need to move all of the clients sites to the new server and also change the Name Servers for the domains.

We want to achieve this with little or no down time because most of the sites are e-commerce sites.

My basic understanding now is that we have to physically move the sites in WHM and then change the DNS servers listed for the domains to reflect our new DNS servers on our dedicated box, but this takes 24 hours to update - so this appears to be our problem - is there a way to make this move quicker and more transparent?

There are a couple of ways to do this basically all center around updating your nameservers at your registrar.

Basically you are going to copy the sites to the new box and add the new box to your registrars nameservers.

You can do:

ns1.oldbox.com
ns2.newbox.com
ns3.ns2onoldbox.com
ns3.ns2onnewbox.com

or you could do:

ns1.newbox.com
ns2.newbox.com
ns3.ns1oldbox.com
ns4.ns2oldbox.com

It is important to keep the sites on both servers during propagation (a minimum of 72 hours) IMO.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest before attempting this maneuver lol
