HELP -- SpamAssassin is killing my server.

Nowadays, every now and then there will be a huge spike whereby the server load will go as high up as 1xx range.

When I did a 'top' or 'ps aux', I notice that the spike was caused by spamd.

Not as a whole, but for a 'user' alone.

Is there a better spam solution?
